Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker was lost for words after Germany's collapse against Sweden.

The Arsenal defender scored as the hosts raced into a 4-0 lead with 30 minutes to go but Rasmus Elm's volleyed in to incredibly make it 4-4 in the third minute of injury time.

"I really cannot explain what happened here," said Mertesacker.

"Against a team like Sweden every little mistake gets punished."
