Arsenal defender Gibbs ends Dubai break early to link up with England

Kieran Gibbs cut short a trip to Dubai in order to answer an SOS from England on Sunday.

The Arsenal defender was on a short break in the UAE when are received a late call-up from Gareth Southgate for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier with Slovenia in Ljubljana.

Left-back Gibbs has been called in to act as cover for Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose following the hamstring injury to Southampton's Ryan Bertrand.

Rose himself has been battling a hamstring injury but the Three Lions are hopeful he will be fit to start against Slovenia having come on for Bertrand in the 19th minute of Friday's 2-0 win over Malta at Wembley.

Gibbs flew home from Dubai to meet up with the England players on Sunday night and will train alongside his compatriots at Hotspur Way on Monday morning before the squad travels to Eastern Europe in the afternoon.
