Arsenal chiefs are relieved with manager Arsene Wenger's deal for Fenerbahce defender Andre Santos.
The Daily Mail says before the move for Dos Santos, members of the Arsenal hierarchy had been at a loss to explain Wenger's decision not to sign a left back after the departure of Gael Clichy to Manchester City.
Wenger had put his faith in injury-prone England defender Kieran Gibbs before the 21-year-old injured a hamstring.
Arsenal's backroom team had seemingly been convinced Wenger would go for Jose Enrique after having the Spanish left back watched last season, but the Frenchman did not follow up his interest and he joined Liverpool for £6m.
