Arsenal boss Wenger: Success of promoted clubs proof Championship quality improving

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger isn't surprised to be seeing the promoted clubs doing so well this season.

As Wenger prepared to take his team to Norwich on Saturday, he explained why he expects a different story this season.

"It indicates what I have said many times - the quality in the Championship has improved," Wenger told Arsenal Player.

"When you speak about the likes of Swansea, Norwich and QPR they have beaten good sides. All three teams play football. The quality of their intensity and desire to play football in the Premier League has gone up.

"We have seen Swansea have more possession than Liverpool. At Arsenal they also had good possession, so they have the desire to get the ball down and play. That's why they adapt very quickly.

"It looks like they [the newly-promoted teams] will [stay around]. You cannot just win games on desire and commitment. If you can master the ball, that can last.

"Last season we saw that with Blackpool, who in the end were unfortunate. As long as they could stay stable psychologically they could play anywhere - and they did."
