Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is surprised by news that Ajax football chief Marc Overmars could be returning to the club.

Wenger is said to be at loggerheads with the club over their plans to modernise the structure behind the scenes at The Emirates.

And this morning, he expressed visible shock when asked if former player Overmars could be joining to oversee transfers.

He said: “No, I am not [aware of the Overmars rumours].

"I like Marc Overmars. It is always difficult.

"We spend a lot of time in our society focusing on things that are superficial."
