Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger remains hopeful of finding a defensive signing before the market shuts.
Wenger has confirmed that with Thomas Vermaelen out until March, he is still looking for central defensive cover.
He said: "The ideal solution would be a loan to the end of the season because we are a bit short on numbers."
Newcastle United veteran Sol Campbell has been linked with a return to the Emirates.
