Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says Gabriel Paulista is in line to make his debut against Aston Villa.
The 24-year-old centre-half completed his £15m move from Villarreal this week, with Joel Campbell going the other way on loan for the rest of the season.
"He's ready to go. He'll be in the squad, certainly. He started yesterday's training."
However, it is unlikely Paulista will start against Villa after Wenger raised questions over the fact he can't speak English.
"At the moment, he doesn't speak a word of English and that could cost you goals.
"If you mix 'going forwards' with 'going backwards' it can cost you.
"It's a position where you need to know your partners and where you need to communicate as well."
