Arsenal and Everton battling for Schalke striker Hoppe

Arsenal and Everton are the two teams with a strong interest in Schalke forward Matthew Hoppe, according to the Daily Star.

The 20-year-old American forward impressed in the Bundesliga last term, despite his club suffering relegation.

Hoppe is likely to leave Schalke this summer, even though the club's top scorer from the past season has a contract for another two years.

He has no desire to play in the second division of German football, while Wahl confirms that both Arsenal and Everton are asking about Hoppe's availability and price.

Schalke are willing to sell him for roughly £4 million, which is a bargain in the present transfer market.
