Arsenal turned to Newcastle United fullback Mathieu Debuchy after failing to agree a fee for Serge Aurier.
French sources state Aurier had agreed personal terms with club.
But the Arsene Wenger failed to negotiate a fee with the Ligue 1 side for Aurier and turned their attentions to Debuchy.
Ivory Coast international Aurier is also interesting Tottenham.
