Argentina scouting mission undertaken by DC United

MLS club DC United have undergone a scouting mission in Argentina which will be followed by additional tours in Europe and Africa.

Club technical director Chad Ashton has just spent two weeks in the South American nation, taking in around 15 matches as DCU search for hidden talents abroad.

Ashton admitted it would be a tough task luring South American players to MLS mainly due to the fact that the payment schemes are so different.

"There are a lot of good players - the hard part is getting them out of there," he said. "The cost [salaries and transfer fees] in leagues around the world compared to our league is very different."

As for potential targets, Ashton was non-committal.

"Right now, it's wait and see," he said.
