Turkish football has hit a new low with the poor behavior of a club president this week.
Ankaragucu's president Faruk Koca has resigned after he was seen punching a referee on Monday night.
The incident occurred in the game against Rizespor in the league, which saw Ankaragucu struggle.
After they conceded a 97th minute equalizer, Koca ran onto the pitch and punched Halil Umut Meler in the face.
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced the suspension of league fixtures for the moment.
Ankaragucu published a statement from Koca, which read: "After the match we played against Caykur Rizespor last night, due to my attitude towards the referee Halil Umut Meler, who managed the match, Mr Meler and his family, in particular; I apologize to the Turkish referee community, sports public and our nation.
"How and why the subject came to this point is independent of the event. No matter how great injustice or wrong it is, nothing can legitimise or explain the violence that I committed, which I definitely did not desire."
