Angry Cesena fans invade training

Cesena coach Mario Beretta was confronted by angry fans yesterday at training.

They climbed over the fences, hurled insults at players and directors while releasing smokebombs. The supporters also stated they will be in the stands against Parma today, but will sit with their backs to the pitch.

"I chose to train behind closed doors so we could try to resolve the problems that we have," said Coach Beretta.

"I cannot leave anything to chance and I'm doing this for the good of the team. The main issues are injuries and suspensions, which force me to seek new alternatives.

"Our objective must always be to win the game. For various reasons we haven't been able to do that recently, but continued working in that direction.

"We've got micro-objectives, really, as all we can do is try to get as many points as possible for purely personal gratification of players and prove the respect we have towards our fans, the media and ourselves.

"The trouble is we need a little bit of luck to recapture that drop of self-esteem, because at the moment giving 100 per cent is not enough."
