Arsenal have pinpointed Carlo Ancelotti to become their new manager - if their plan to bring in Max Allegri fails.
Allegri is set to hold talks with his current club, Juventus, about his future plans.
If the Italian decides to stay in Turin, the Gunners want former Chelsea boss Ancelotti to replace Arsene Wenger.
And according to the Daily Star, Ancelotti would then be tasked with grooming a long-term successor.
New York City FC manager Patrick Vieira and Manchester City assistant Mikel Arteta - both former Arsenal players - are the top candidates to work alongside Ancelotti.
Zeljko Buvac, who has left his job as number 2 at Liverpool, is also a candidate.
