An American group are weighing up reviving their bid for Newcastle United.

The Sunday Sun says Mike Ashley officially took the Magpies off the market last month after claiming nobody had matched his reduced £80 million asking price.

However, he has since sparked uproar by putting the St James' Park stadium naming rights up for sale and temporarily rebranding the ground.

The subsequent backlash against him has revived the mystery US-based group's hopes of striking a deal for the club. So much so that, having held discussions with Ashley while Newcastle were on the market, they are preparing to fly back to the UK in the next 10 days with a view to reopening talks.
