Shola Ameobi admits it's exciting times at Newcastle United.

The 30-year-old striker insists the players will not let the prospect of qualifying for Europe undo all their good work.

"There's a lot of good teams behind us so we just have to focus on the next few games and see where it takes us," he told The Journal.

"It's great to be a part of, it's exciting times for Newcastle so hopefully we can keep our heads and keep focused until the end of the season.

"The manager is putting a squad together that want to work for each other and do well and that's all we can ask really. We're in sixth position and I know a lot of people wouldn't have put us in that place at this stage, but there's a lot of hard work and effort gone into what we've done this year.

"We've got to be focused and keep our heads level."
