Almunia will leave Arsenal to return to Spain

Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is certain to leave the North London club in January.

The 33-year old has been given permission to return home to Spain to recover from an injured elbow and ponder the next step in his playing career.

It is quite clear that Almunia has no future at the Emirates Stadium and his agent Joseba Diaz has begun fielding offers regarding the former Celta Vigo man.

Spanish outfit Malaga and a Qatari club are showing interest at this stage with Diaz confirming his client wanted to move back home.

"We have still not finished negotiations, but it is clear that Manuel wants to return to Spain," he said.

Almunia will be allowed to leave Arsenal for a fee of around £1.5million.
