Allardyce: West Ham players hurting as much as fans

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce says the players and staff are hurting as much as the fans over their recent dismal results.

Allardyce wrote in the London Evening Standard: "I did receive a nice letter from a supporter this morning. It's good to know there's at least one fan out there who's still batting for me!

"There are some who believe they are suffering more than the players and the staff - that we somehow don't care. I find that incredibly difficult to stomach. We're in it every day, we're trying to find solutions every minute of the day, we're lying awake night after night going over things.

"None of us - me, the staff, the players - wants this pressure. We're not doing it on purpose. There are reasons why it's happening - not excuses - but we have to grind it out and make sure things improve.

"To suggest that players are not trying or that they are not hurting as much as supporters is a complete fabrication.

"There are some players who may give up on you, who want to leave because of various reasons, but that's like anyone in any workplace who wants to move on.

"But, overall, as far as everyone else is concerned, they're fearful, they're not sleeping well.

"My job is to override that fear factor, to remind these players of how good they are, not the opposite. I've told them to look back and find what they consider to be the best game they've played and make sure they watch it again."
