England coach Sam Allardyce is eager for Southend boss Phil Brown to join his staff.
Allardyce has already lined up Sammy Lee and Paul Clement to join his coaching staff. But he clearly regards Brown highly, having employed him as his No 2 at both Bolton and Blackpool, says the Mail on Sunday.
Allardyce also wanted him at Sunderland, though Brown took the Southend job instead, and now, apparently, he is expecting a call from his old friend. That would fit with the new England chief's wish to surround himself with people he knows and trusts.
"I want to create a backroom staff that delivers a great service in all areas and departments," he said.
