Alessandro Agostini has been named Cagliari caretaker coach after Walter Mazzarri's sacking.

Agostini has been in charge of the Primavera team for the past two seasons.

“Cagliari announce Alessandro Agostini has been appointed as the first-team coach. He will oversee his first training session this afternoon," the club said in a statement.

Cagliari have a two-point lead over 18th-placed Salernitana, but the Granata have a game in hand.

The two teams will meet on Sunday.
