Toby Alderweireld insists his move to Tottenham wasn't just down to him.

Alderweireld was widely expected to make his loan deal with Southampton permanent, but the Belgian says the decision was not entirely down to him.

The former Atletico Madrid defender said: "It was not only up to me.

"Atletico had to make a deal with a club and they said 'we have a deal with Tottenham.'

"I said 'I'm very happy with that'. My Belgium team-mates helped a little bit, but it was not the main reason to move here.

"It was nice to move earlier than deadline day. The last couple of years were very stressful for me and this time I could sit on the couch and watch it!"
