Al Wehda striker Beauguel: Ronaldo treated me with contempt

Al Wehda striker Jean-David Beauguel was left disappointed by Cristiano Ronaldo yesterday.

Beauguel scored the winner for Al Wehda against Al Nassr in the Saudi Cup and was unimpressed by Ronaldo's actions at the final whistle.

The former Toulouse forward told L'Equipe: “I was a little disappointed. At the end of the game, I told him that he was a big fan and asked for his shirt. He shook my hand without meeting my eyes, with a very contemptuous air . I stayed silent because I grew up with him. I still remember the videos I watched of him when I was in college.

"I understand that he was disappointed after the loss, that he is a great competitor, but his attitude surprised me. Even on the pitch, he was upset, he would yell at his teammates."

On what Ronaldo means to the Saudi Pro League, Beauguel: “Beyond the economic aspect, which is surely positive, I think it's great for Saudi football. Saudis are soccer fans. And his arrival may push players of his calibre to want to play here. This will allow the development of football here, academies, training centres."
