Al Sadd coach Xavi has explained missing out on Parma striker Gervinho.

The Ivorian attempted to force through a deadline day move from Parma, only for it to fall through due to delays in the paperwork.

“What I heard from the club's management is that it's difficult to register Gervinho, as the transfer window closed yesterday," Xavi said on Al Sadd's official website.

“If he is registered, it will be for next season. He's a fine player, but we'll try to look for a free agent who can join the club now. I would've liked to have Gervinho here, but it's difficult to register him now."

Al Sadd were willing to pay €5m for Gervinho on Friday.
