Ajax defender Timber feels for Alvarez after Chelsea move denied

Ajax defender Jurrien Timber feels for Edson Alvarez after he was blocked from joining Chelsea last week.

Chelsea had an offer of €50m for the Mexico midfielder rejected by Ajax on deadline day. Like Antony and his push for Manchester United, Alvarez refused to train on the day as he tried to force Ajax to sell.

Timber said, "I would like to work together with Ajax in good harmony. However, I can understand Antony with such a high bid (Manchester United). I don't know whether you should start training then.

"For Edson Álvarez , Chelsea is a unique opportunity. I wouldn't be so quick to do this myself, but I can't say that until I'm in his situation. They're in the moment. You don't know what they're feeling.

"I think background also plays a role. For Ajax is more of an intermediate step for them."
