Arsenal's move for Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen has stalled.

The Daily Star Sunday says the Gunners' interest in Vermaelen, 23, has been rocked by the arrival of new manager Martin Jol.

Former Spurs boss Jol took over last week after taking Hamburg to the semi finals of both UEFA Cup and German Cup.

His first task was to put a hold on all possible transfers.

Both Arsenal and Aston Villa are interested.
