Aguero helps Atletico Madrid fans forget Torres

Sergio Aguero was delighted with his goal for Atletico Madrid in last night's 2-0 win at Athletic Bilbao.

The young Argentina international is fast emerging as the player to succeed Liverpool's Fernando Torres as the favourite of Atletico fans and he was a bright point in a disappointing performance last night.

Aguero said: "It is true that San Mames has been good for me and hopefully I can continue this form. The team was happy with this victory and the three points.

"I had a strong blow to the ankle, but it was important to continue playing. We deserved the triumph. I do not believe that I'll have problems playing this Sunday against Osasuna.

"I am well physically because in the U20 World Cup I played several consecutive games and that helped cover my lack of preseason."

Bilbao coach Joaquin Caparros said of Aguero: "He is tremendous. I have followed him a lot since he was in Argentina. He can be what he wants. He is strong and he has everything."

Atletico boss Javier Aguirre also said: "God has given him a special talent. He was the difference."
