Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy tried to hire Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi before the appointment of Jose Mourinho, it has been revealed.

Mauricio Pochettino was given his marching orders in November and Mourinho was ushered in.

Inzaghi has impressed during his four-year tenure at Lazio and Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito has suggested Levy's preferred option to replace Pochettino was the 44-year-old former striker.

“There was a desperate attempt by Tottenham before taking Mourinho," he told Italian radio.

Lazio were battling for Serie A glory prior the season being postponed due to the coronavirus crisis.
