Newly-appointed Sheffield United manager Nigel Adkins is aiming for promotion to the Championship in his first season in charge of the Blades.

The League One club fell short in the play-offs under predecessor Nigel Clough last month but ex-Southampton and Reading boss Adkins is looking to take the club one step further.

Adkins said: "First of all, we have all got to share that same common goal.

"We get young, hungry, ambitious hard-working players who share a common goal of being successful.

"When we look at ourselves here that is what we need.

"We all have to share the same common goal and that is to get promoted and get into the Championship."
