AC Milan midfielder Jose Mauri has turned down the chance to play for Italy.

Mauri has received a call to play for the Italy Under-20 squad, but turned it down, as he wants to wait for Argentina.

“Jose Mauri is a good kid and a fine player," said Italy Under-21 Coach Gigi Di Biagio.

“By choosing not to accept the Under-20 call, he made a decision that is to be respected. He had been sent to the Under-20s so he could play a little, seeing as he never plays for Milan.

“Obviously if he feels Argentinean today then he won't feel Italian in a month, so I don't think we'll try to call him any time soon."
