AC Milan striker Giroud delighted with hat-trick for Sampdoria thrashing

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud was delighted with his hat-trick in their 5-1 win against Sampdoria.

The result eased the pain of their midweek Champions League semifinal defeat to Inter Milan.

“We wanted to have a good performance tonight to get back on our feet after Tuesday, for our fans and all the Milanisti," Giroud told Sky Italia.

“We started the match well, something that we struggled to do recently, especially at home. So we gained a bit of confidence and were efficient in front of goal.

“I will turn 37 soon, but I am like one of my kids when I play football. I always want to win, also for this jersey. It means a lot to me to play here and I don't know if that was my last Champions League game, I hope not, but you never know.

“So I thought a little about the future, but we'll do everything to qualify for the Champions League next season, as this club and fans deserve it."
