AC Milan defender Oguchi Onyewu is in California having an injury check up for his knee.

The 27-year old USA international will see the surgeon who operated on him last October after ruptured the patellar tendon whilst on duty for his nation against Costa Rica.

Milan spokesman Riccardo Coli confirmed that Onyewu was in the US and would be back in Italy by the weekend.

"He is currently working with the U.S. team's medical staff. He is expected back in Italy at the end of the week," Coli said.

Onyewu holds hope that he can be back on the pitch in time for the World Cup in South Africa which kicks off on June 11.
