AC Milan midfielder Van Ginkel says injury not serious

Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel says an injury suffered on his AC Milan debut isn't serious.

Van Ginkel, on a one-season loan from Stamford Bridge, was stretchered off just 30 minutes into his Serie A debut against Empoli.

"The joint popped a little. At first I tried to play through but it didn't feel right. Fortunately my injury is not too bad and I hope to be back in a few weeks," he told the Daily Star.

Tests show he sustained ligament damage in his ankle and is expected to be out of action for around a month.

"AC Milan wanted me for a long time and did everything to get me," Van Ginkel also commented to Milan Channel.

"That is good for a player to know. We play with two attacking midfielders and a defensive one. I think I am more of an attacking one.

"I think Italian football suits me. Milan is a great club, even though we won't play in the Champions League this year, so I am fine here.

"Right now I am focused entirely on Milan, but I'm happy with the fact that Chelsea didn't put an option to buy in the loan."
