AC Milan GM Adriano Galliani has spoken of Andriy Shevchenko leaving for Chelsea.
The Rossonero legend left for Chelsea in 2006, but flopped during his two years with the Londoners.
Galliani recalled: "We fought so hard and Silvio Berlusconi has done everything to make him stay. That day I remained with him in talks and it was also the day when I was ready to tear up his contract.
"We were the best team in the world in that year.
"I said to him: 'Look Andriy, if you stay with us and for a few weeks you don't play well, fans will still remember your goals. At Chelsea this will not happen', he explained.
"If he had stayed, I'm sure the Gunnar Nordahl record was over. But it was a decision that we had to respect."
