AC Milan coach Leonardo stands by Dida

AC Milan coach Leonardo is standing by goalkeeper Nelson Dida.

The Brazilian gaffed in their Champions League win at Real Madrid in midweek.

But Leonardo says: "I keep everything from Dida's performance, which means the mistake and also the decisive saves.

"It was a shocking error, but also fuelled by his desire to get back on track. I don't say this just to defend him, but I feel there are few in the world who know how to react to something like that the way he does.

"After such an incident, he kept calm and performed a decisive save. Don't forget Dida hasn't trained properly pre-season due to injury, he hasn't played in months and was unexpectedly introduced because Marco Storari is out of action.

"He has the character to react psychologically to the Bernabeu error and has not reached a point of no return. Besides, the situation is clear: with Storari and [Christian] Abbiati injured, I have faith in Dida."
