AC Milan chief Zvonimir Boban admits they made an attempt for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric this summer.
Boban, however, says they couldn't convince Modric due to "honour".
He explained: "Modric is a great Milanese, extraordinary, but his arrival was unlikely.
"He would have liked the same, but we never got to make it concrete. He didn't want to leave Madrid after one bad season and this makes him honourable."
On missing out on Atletico Madrid striker Angel Correa, Boban added: "With Correa we did not find the right economic conditions and we had to negotiate for other players in the same position.
"We have a good squad."
