Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes has been named the Scottish Premier League Player of the Month for September.

Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes has been named the Scottish Premier League Player of the Month for September.

The 42-year old guided the Dons to two wins and a draw during the ninth month of 2013 to move to fourth spot on the league table.

Aberdeen beat Partick Thistle 3-0, then-league leaders Inverness 1-0 and drew 1-1 with St Mirren to give the former Bristol City manager his first monthly award.

"It was a good month. We showed consistency of performance and got good results within that,” he told Sky Sports.

"We just want to keep building on that, show that same consistency over a period of time and it'll get us where we want to be.

"Obviously Inverness came to our place in fine form, and it was always going to be a big game for us, but I think any victory you get in this league is always hard-fought.

"I've been pleased we've been in top six since start of season and we want to try to hang about there and push on if we can.”
