Aberdeen boss relaxed over Velicka fitness concerns

Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee is relaxed over the fitness of Andrius Velicka even though injury has robbed the striker of the chance to make his debut on Saturday. The Rangers forward joined the Dons on loan on transfer deadline day, but returned from international duty this week with an ankle knock.

The Lithuanian has not played for the Scottish champions for well over a year and suffered a serious knee injury during his first game on loan at Bristol City last term.

"It's not a concern," said McGhee.

"He's got a little injury now, he's come back with an ankle injury, which is disappointing but he will be training by the middle of next week with the squad.

"As far as his longer term future, the rehab from his knee injury is well-advanced. Our medical team has spoken closely with theirs and we know the programme that he's on.

"We will watch him, we will monitor him but we don't really expect any other problems with the knee. All we do expect is that he's going to need brought back up to full speed.

"We've got a season ahead of us to do that and we will do it as quickly as we can but we will be scientific about it."
