A-League club Gold Coast United are reportedly keen on making an audacious bid for Benfica striker Nuno Gomes. O Kosmos suggests that United owner Clive Palmer has spoken to the 34-year old Portugal international and he is believed to be considering the move.
Gomes has had a brilliant career in Portugal and Italy, kicking off proceedings with Boavista back in 1994 before moving to Benfica in 1997. He then shifted to Fiorentina in 2000 before returning to Benfica in 2002.
Along the way he has represented his nation close to 80 times and scored just under 30 goals.
Gomes is the third big-name player to be linked with the Gold Coast recently, following former Real Madrid veteran Raul and ex-Arsenal star Robert Pires.
