Yorke urges Man Utd to deal in Evans

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke says Jonny Evans should be handed a longer deal.

After his release by Leicester City, Evans penned a deal to the end of August with United as he does his preseason with his former club.

The veteran has impressed and Yorke told the Manchester Evening News: "I've always rated Jonny, even as a kid when he was coming through at Man United, he was a bit of a surprise and he was far better than what people gave him credit for.

"Evans is a quality player, one that is a very competent defender and comfortable on the ball, so you could rely on him. You could see how Leicester City collapsed when he was out of the team, especially without his guidance and reading of the game.

"I think a one-year deal at Man United would be good because when you re-sign for the club you love, you get energised again and get that glimmer of hope that could reignite his career. I think Erik ten Hag could give him that reserve role behind Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, he can be the next guy in line."
