Yann Sommer happy with first weeks at Inter Milan

Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer is happy with his first weeks at the club.

Sommer arrived earlier this summer from Bayern Munich.

He said: "San Siro is really beautiful, it wasn't the first time for me having already played there with Gladbach in the Champions League, but there were no fans there due to the covid limitations. With Monza, however, they were there and it was wonderful."

Was being here what you wanted?

"Of course, 100%. Inter is a great club with a long tradition. For me it's all completely new: new league, new club as a starter. It's a great challenge, let's see what happens. In all past clubs I felt good, everything is very nice here: I couldn't wait to get there and compete in a new league, in a new country and with new team-mates. Now I want to win with Inter."

What words are you learning?

"All the technical terms on the pitch like right, left, back, man. I speak in English or German sometimes, there are players who speak it: we won't have any problems."

What is the first thing Simone Inzaghi said to you?

"He explained to me what he would have expected from me, telling me that he was happy to have me here. I too replied that I was happy to work with him."

You are the shortest goalkeeper in Serie A, did you know that?

"For me it's not important how tall a goalkeeper is, just like the players: in Europe you see many small defenders. If you're not tall, you have to do other things very well: playing time, explosiveness, strength, jumping , courage. They are fundamental aspects to compensate for height, for me it is not a problem."

Your best quality?

"Explosiveness and speed of movement with the feet is always important. It is important to take small steps with the right tempo. Height has never been a problem for me."

Inter play a lot of ball on the ground. Do you like it?

"Yes, a lot. You also have to consider the risks and find the right balance, but I like it. It's always important to start the action from behind: sometimes there are risks, but with the right movements and playing options there can't be any problems."
