Wolves boss McCarthy: Vokes stays

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy insists striker Sam Vokes is staying.

The 20 Wales international has just returned from an extended loan with Leeds United.

McCarthy told the Express & Star: "There's no chance of him going back out on loan at the minute, because I've got Stefan Maierhofer needing a hernia operation and Andy Keogh out for weeks.

"It will be a couple of months before we see Andy back playing again. He's progressing nicely."

Vokes found his appearances limited with League One leaders Leeds, scoring just once in eight games, but McCarthy insists the youngster has been rejuvenated by his spell at Elland Road.

He continued: "Sam Vokes has come back and he looks two yards quicker, and that's what you get from playing first-team football.

"We all know it's beneficial for them to get that and to go out and play, and Sam's looked excellent."
