West Ham boss Moyes: No-one would give Arteta credit

West Ham United boss David Moyes has delivered his verdict on Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

The Hammers coach is all too aware of Arteta's qualities, having coached him for several years as a player at Everton.

Now the young Spanish coach is topping the Premier League table with the Gunners, after beating Tottenham and Liverpool in consecutive match weeks.

"There were a lot of people always critical of Arsenal over the last few years," Moyes told talkSPORT.

"I think they've been a really good team for a while when nobody was giving them respect.

"They brought in [Martin] Odegaard who has made a real difference, Mikel had an idea of what he thinks it should look like and after working with Pep [Guardiola] for a few years and giving him that guidance in how to prepare a good team, I just felt nobody was giving Mikel any credit whatsoever.

"He's a really diligent boy, young manager, learning his way, he'll make a few mistakes as he goes along, like I did, like everybody else does, but he hasn't half put together a really good side and sometimes you need good fortune to have good young players at your club when you arrive and I think Arsenal had and have good young players in their system."
