West Ham boss David Moyes handed a 16-year-old Wayne Rooney his debut at Everton in 2002.
That boy is now a manager after hanging up his boots to become ChampionshipDerby County boss on a permanent basis.
"I knew him as a player and as a boy. He was a tremendous young player. What he could do from 16 onwards," said Moyes.
"He's had an incredible career so if he's chosen to stop playing, I'm sure it'll be for the right reasons.
"He's going into a different world now completely. Not all the best players go on to be the best managers, but just with his attitude, I'm sure he'll be successful."
