Holland striker Wout Weghorst has hit back at Argentina captain Lionel Messi after their post-match bust-up.

After Argentina had won their World Cup quarterfinal on penalties, Messi snapped at Besiktas striker Weghorst while he was doing a post-match interview.

In response, Weghorst said: "Messi greatly disappointed me.

"I wanted to shake his hand after the match, but he did not want to.

"I don't understand Spanish well, but I'm sure he told me something very unpleasant."
