West Ham won 1-0 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night and Solskjaer admits the hosts paid for a slow start to the Cup tie.
The United manager also defended Anthony Martial after his performance and insisted Jesse Lingard deserved a penalty which was denied after a challenge from Hammers captain Mark Noble.
