Walter Novellino has been named new coach of Palermo.

He replaces Beppe Iachini after his departure this week.

“What encouraged me to come here? It's my job," he said to Gianluca Di Marzio's website.

“I had the chance and we hope to do great things. It doesn't seem right to say what Palermo told me, they need a lot of enthusiasm and I've got it.

“Let's hope that I manage to stay and won't be sacked, the important thing is to work hard.

“I haven't asked for any guarantees. My desire is great, the fans are fantastic and we hope to give them a lot of satisfaction."
