Villarreal coach Marcelino relieved with victory over Celta Vigo: Right way to break up

Villarreal coach Marcelino was happy after their 3-2 win against Celta Vigo.

Villarreal were 3-0 ahead before Celta staged a second-half fight-back before falling short.

Marcelino said: "You never work calmly, you have to do it with passion, enthusiasm, desire to work. This match was important, it means we spend eight days forgetting a little about football, sharing with the family, and if you go with defeat it is much more bitter.

"Thanks to the very good work of the footballers, it was quite difficult for us, we all wanted to win three to zero, but again we conceded two goals. And again about strategy.

"Let's see if next year we are more efficient in this aspect, let's hope so and even if we don't train we will change the chip. I am happy because the team played a very good game from the first minutes. Many scoring chances, with very good sense in the game. And then defensive weakness punishes us and puts victory in danger. It's a shame because with three to zero we would be talking about the change that the team made, and now we talk about how we won but that we are still on the path."

He added: "vToday for many minutes, it is the Villarreal that I want. We have been effective, we have recovered, we pressed well and we had the ball. If we see it from the goal conceded, it is evident that we have to improve.

"But the players have traced the path to the second goal up to that moment. We have not controlled the game, although they have not created much danger for us except for one that Filip stopped. It is not easy with young people behind and conceding so many goals, facing that final stretch. And we were correct there."
