Villarreal coach Marcelino proud of players after stunning win at Rennes

Villarreal coach Marcelino was left delighted with their 3-2 win at Rennes.

The result sees Villarreal reach the Europa League round of 16.

Marcelino said afterwards: "Epic victory, because of how it happened. I get the feeling that we shouldn't have reached that end because we had chances to score in the second half. We ended up with nine due to two injuries.

"A stroke of misfortune, because when it was under control, (Francis) Coquelin and Matteo (Gabbia) were injured. All of this super values this victory. It puts us first, it prevents us from a qualifying round.

"We are super proud of the players."

He also said: "Gabbia has a bad blow, he lost consciousness. With Coquelin I hope we are lucky, it is a hyper extension in the injured knee. Since we arrived we have suffered hard blows, with bad luck. With the match controlled we have had two injuries.

"We had chances to go two to four. It's football, when you are in a negative dynamic it goes against you. With tenacity we can change it."
