Villa captain Petrov convinced top four achievable

Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov is convinced a top four finish is achievable.

The Bulgarian midfielder reckons the perennial sixth placed team should make a fresh bid for glory to reward their dedicated supporters.

"Our aim is to break into the top four and that Champions League spot," Petrov told the Sunday Mercury.

"We are still trying to do it and all of us want to go to the Champions League. We know it's going to be even harder next year with the spending of Man City and the strengthening of Tottenham and Liverpool as well.

"We don't run away from responsibilities. We are aiming for the Champions League and we will see how close we can get to achieving that.

"We have a great team spirit. We have some good characters and winners in our team. It's up to us to raise our game.

"We all want to be in the Champions League and I hope we can produce that for the fans.

"The fans were magnificent last season and I hope they can continue supporting us the way they did last season this season."
