Vancouver Whitecaps defender Jay DeMerit faces six weeks out after suffering a torn tendon in his left ankle.
DeMerit suffered the injury during last week's game with Philadelphia Union.
The 34-year-old World Cup veteran appeared in just eight games for Vancouver last year due to a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered in the season opener. He has appeared in 71 of the Whitecaps' 115 regular-season games over the last three-and-a-half seasons.
