PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has responded to fake news regarding Cody Gakpo going to Liverpool.
Van Nistelrooy, a Manchester United legend, was rumored to want Gakpo to sign for his old club instead.
However, the PSV boss has taken a swipe at media reports that created quotes of his out of thin air.
"I did nothing," he responded on The Overlap with Gary Neville to questions about the situation.
"I saw one of the worst quotes about me on that [Gakpo signing for Liverpool]. Gakpo got asked about it Liverpool [and] Manchester United but it was a completely made-up, fake quote. But anyway."
"Gakpo's dream move was Manchester United," was the quote that van Nistelrooy argues he never said.
"I advised him to wait 'til the summer. Something happened and he refused my advice and listened to Virgil van Dijk, who tempted him to join his team."
